View Full Version : Lucas Oil stabilizer or Mopar chamber cleaner?

I have the valve ticking sound on my 90 TSi and it was never this bad, but I only got it about 5-6 months ago. It seems to be worse when the car is cold. Would it be worth it to throw some Lucas Oil Stabilizer or will that do more damage?
Would the Mopar Combustion Chamber Cleaner be worth a try or is it more than likely needing lifter replacement?
Thanks
Jim

i have the same problem with my 95 TSi, and im running 10w40 oil, when its cold its alittle bad but once the oil starts to pump up it gets completly quiet.. any auto parts store sells a product called valve-medic, i think its made by gunk but im not sure, you add it everytime you change your oil, works really good...try it and see what happens...

I am running 10w-30. I am not a fan of mechanic-in-a-bottle stuff and wonder if this Valve Medic might cause other problems like oil pressure issues, etc... just like I was wondering abotu teh Lucas oil stabilizer.

well when i had my 90 GSX a while ago, the only reason i was using it was because when i bought the car it had that problem and thats what the prior owner was using, so i comtinued it... i didnt seem to see any problems with it at all.... but im the same, i dont like mechanics in a bottle either....:D

I say just replace the lifters for $135 and use whatever oil is best for your engine. I use Mobil 1 15w-50 in mine.

Theres a product that NAPA auto parts carries seafoam. By far the best additive ive ever used. Tried it on my moms van and it ran like a brand new car (A ford with 150k+ miles). For some reason napas the only place that carries it. Is also to use via a vaccum line (I used the brake booster line on my lincoln towncar.).

Of all the people posting in this thread, Jose knows his stuff the best. Use that as your guide post.
Also, try searching the various DSM resources for "lifter tick" because if it's your valves making that noise, you probably need more than a bottle of snake oil.

Where's a good place to get the lifters?

Did you look here? (http://orl.dsmforum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3494)
You can either get OEM Mitsu parts or the aftermarket lifters. I believe Topline makes them. If someone has the contact info for a distributor, it would be good to add to a post in the GG/BG forum.
