View Full Version : Jasper Engines and Transmissions?

Has anyone here heard anything about Jasper Engines? My friend Brandon is looking at getting a new motor for his car and he likes the warranty.
Can anyone give me some ideas as to if these guys are any good?
BTW: He is looking at $3614 for the motor. He was told that this motor had upgraded hardware, but I really doubt it. The mechanic also told him he would never have to worry about dropping another valve nor would he have to ever worry about the crank pully separating again. (I laughed!)

This is seriously for a 4G63T? Have him call John Shepherd (www.shepracing.com) and tell him he wants a stock rebuild. I wouldn't pay an extra $1000+(++) for some warranty that is likely as easily voided as it is offered.

Yup! It is for a 4g63. (They do not spec whether or not it is for a Turbo or not. LOL!)
I just want him to see what you all think so he will know it is not just me.

Ill play devils advocate. My cousin had his 302 (mustang) small block ford rebuilt by them and it was around same price.
They supplied dyno sheet and superflow printout for the ported heads. The engine ran and stull runs great. Jasper has been around forever and has the best cnc equipment money can buy in its shop.
Remember what your paying for, hand assembly by people who build engines all day long and all clearances checked on quality equipment. If you get a mitsu engine they dont even know what a micrometer or dial bore gauge is. On the assembly line they take standard bearings and throw in a standard crank, same for pistons, rings and cylinder bore. Sure 97 out of 100 will work fine but the three bad ones will be the one you get.

If I was looking to buy a Chebby tree-fiddy or a Blue Oval 302, I might look at Jasper and his kin. If I was looking for a 4G63T and could get it for damn near half the price - I would get it from someone who builds DSM motors and trannies for a living and has the quickest unibody DSM in the world. :idea:

if I had $3614 to spend on the blown motor in my dsm, I would make a down payment on my new tow vehicle.

but I digress.......... you can get a replacement engine for less than one third of that, do a home rebuild for under $1,000 with quality parts and shopping out what minor machine work is required, or you can pay someone who builds dsm race motors a good chunk of it and get a bottom end that can run 10's ( the jury is still out on whether or not the car will go tens though).

Not sure if you were implying that Shep only does race-quality motors, but for reference - he can do high-quality "stock" rebuilds. That info is in the link.

I was implying that for that kind of money you can get a lot more durable engine than a stock rebuild. not that there's anything wrong with a stock rebuild, just saying.......
