I am not computer savvy enough to figure out the poll posting thing, so a simple reply is fine, I can count ;) I have a pair of HKS 280's ready to be picked up this Fri. I have stock turbo, stock injectors, jestr reflash, full exhaust including 02 housing, walbro 255, injen intake and intake piping, (exhaust side and ic is stock). Personal best is 12.55 @ 108.78. My next purchase is cams, cam gears, and ARP headstuds. In your opinion, should I wait on the 280's, and go with 272 for now or go all out from the get-go, I WILL have an upgraded turbo within the next 6 months. I saw Fabio run 124mph from a slow roll, don't know him personally, but that is freaking awesome. But I don't want to blow up my car at the same time. I think he still has 272, no idea what else.

Edited post, sorry about that.

I am sure that 124 is not possible on the stock turbo, my question, which you answered, is that will I be OK to run the 280's until the turbo upgrade. I know you are going to run 272, I guess we will see which is better next month since we are at the same point right now.

Both of you are doing great. Just keep helping each other out. This thread is starting to sound like the one where I was talking about the Dynos and Tune back and forth with George the last time. I wanted to help George since he is new to the Mitsu Camp. Now Scott wants to help him too. We are forgeting George is doing good on his own. Copy or not. The good thing is that we all are able to adjust and get alone very well. We have great respect for each other. That is what I like about us. We stick together, meet often, and get alone super well. A :chug: to Orlando DSM.
A couple of month ago in Central Florida, Evos were seen as ok. and most Neons, WRX's etc. thought they had a chance at the game. Now, I think is different. Our group keeps Evolving and the competition is getting smaller, .

Buschur picked up like 12hp switching from the 272s to the 280s. And 124mph shouldn't be impossible from your turbo, curt brown did 132mph. ;)

Well, not exactly.... To be continued.... :D

P.S. -You are still new to the scene George. It is a common courtesy to let the owners of the cars speak on behalf of themselves with regard to their current state of tune, mods list and future intentions. They have the "choice" to divulge current mods, future plans etc. The fastest tuners get there through trial and error, knowledge and hard work, not just money and copying others.

I am new and still learning, sorry about that.

Curt Brown had a lot more work incl porting. No one is that close to him so ?. Buschur picked up 15hp but it took $2200 AEM EMS to get there. The cams alone didn't do it. George is running flash only. I am not certain if he lost any power down low w/ 280's, but it is possible. Main detraction is it will not idle. The 272's used to be considered "race only". Now what does that say for 280's? They are not recommended without upgraded valvesprings and retainers, but hey I would love to see it work, just have a backup car ready.

Back up car because it's going to break, or because it won't run once they're in?

Personally for your car I would use 272s. That is my opinion. Cams are something that are not a wear item so you can sell them at any point if you want to upgrade without losing too much money.

HKS is nice cams. But take a look at the specs in comparison to the Tomei camshafts. HKS does recommend the use of aftermarket valve springs with the 280's. But take a look at the lift specs. Lift is what makes the power, or how much the valve is opened up from the valve seat. HKS 280 duration cam shafts have a lift of 10.2 for both intake and exhaust camshafts. The Tomei's have 11.8 lift.

JDM Master Shinji must have told you wrong again. Lift IS NOT necessarily what makes power. If you look at the lift in all the HKS cams you will find it is the same. Why do HKS cams all respond differently with the same amount of lift?

Its all relative......Just because you have a high lift doesnt mean you have more HP. it has to be the right combination of lift and durration.
