a little sanding, and a little polishing

-First, I d egreased everything with Simple Green
-Lightly wet sanded with 1000 grit sand paper
-Polished with "BLUEMAGIC" metal polish, a old washcloth and a lot of elbow grease
Finally wiped everything down thoroughly with a microfiber towel.

    Before

    After

I know its not batman status, Mark. But maybe you can give me some pointers.

Mark has a series of polishing pads/wheels on a high speed orbital sander. A very nice series at that.

If you want a clearer shine you need to sand it again with 1500 and then 2000. Then polish polish with Bluemagic. The reason it seems a little hazy still is that there are still sanding marks in the metal. They are small but enough to throw the shine off.

hmm, I will have to try some 2000 paper next time it gets oxidized. It looks a little better in person, its kinda difficult to take a picture of a polished surface.

thanks for the tips and comments.

It was simple enough. If you bring it to me next time you have some downtime and I will.

I prefer "mothers" polish over bluemagic (but it's been years since I used bluemagic). Also you polishing by hand or powertool? I get my best work with the dremel's or drill's polishing wheel.

I will give Mothers a shot after the bluemagic is used up. I used my hands and terrycloth rags, and I didn't spend much time on the runners.
