Need a daily driver that is decently comfortable, but really needs good gas mileage and reliability.
What cars/models in early 90s had the best gas mileage?
Thanks
Jim

Believe it or not the Geo Storm( w/ 5 speed). I used to own one. Awsome car.
Check for a '92-'95 Honda Civic VX. One of the ultimate ****box commuters.Combine ridiculous gas mileage (EPA rated 48/55) with Honda build quality and reliability and then toss in the practicality of a hatchback. Plus it comes with vinyl seats, so you never have to worry about incriminating sex stains - just hose it out!
I used to be kind of a big deal on the internet.
Yeah, that was one of the main ones I was looking at. That is ridiculous gas mileage!
Now I have to try and find one.
Please keep the suggestions coming, in the meantime.
Toyota Tercels/Paseos/Corollas
geo metro
ford festiva
You guys have any numbers to throw in there with those suggestions? Even an EF ('88-'91) Civic DX (the most common) is EPA listed at 31/35. A CRX HF of the same era is EPA listed at 49/52.
Watch out for insurance on the CRX, though. That, and the lack of people-space.
[Edit: Also, depending on your price range, the EK Civics ('96-'00) came in a fuel efficiency coupe called the HX. EPA 39/45)

ford festiva is rated at 35/42. coupled with the fact that they can be had for $500........ pretty economic transportation.
the convertible metro, which is the gas hog of the bunch is rated at 41/46. they can be had for under a grand.
I dont know what the gas mileage is on this one but my friend had one and it seemed like he never had to fill up.
Chevy sprint I think this is a cousin of the metro.
My ex girlfriend also had an metro and that thing was awesome on gas as well.

I don't think gas mileage has to be so good that I get a Metro or Festiva. I want something a little more of a normal size.
then mileage must not be a concern.
you need to explain your needs and *wants* more clearly.
OK, well.
1. Reliable
2. Easy on the eyes
3. Gas mileage
4. Decent room for 4
Sorry. That better?
If I was strictly concerned about gas mileage I would get a moped.![]()

The Paseo and Geo Storm strike me as kind-of a girlie car.
Any Japanese 4-cylinder sedan.Originally posted by Respected

It'll be relatively good gas mileage even if it's not the sort of sipping you'll see from the cars previously listed. It's hard to go wrong with a Camry/Accord/Civic/Corolla.
Or, if the budget allows, the Civic HX might be perfect.
